Custom picture framing business for sale: All equipment and tools, frame samples and matboard samples, cases of glass and matboard remnants, all hardware and wire etc. to complete frames; local and remote suppliers recommendations, numerous back issues of Picture Framing magazine (all instructional) and an enormous workbench, custom-built for this purpose.
This has been an excellent home-based source of income for me for years. You will need a large space to accommodate this home-based business. (My current studio measures 11'-6" x 22'. The workbench itself is 5' x 17'). In one house, years ago, I used 1/2 of my 2-car garage for this and it worked well.
I have always conducted my business as a "chop"-based business. That means I order frames only from moulding suppliers who sell individual frames to me "chopped". And what that means is if I order a frame at, say, 22" x 34-1/2", I will receive two pieces at 22" and two at 34-1/2", properly cut with 90-degree corners. I then simply assemble those 4 pieces into a frame. This means you do not need the large space required for a chop saw (with all the dust that that process creates), as well as to store the left-over moulding that accumulates when you order moulding by the "length" (12-foot lengths of moulding, with a 24-foot order minimum).
Bottom line: This can be a home-based source of revenue without the dusty aspect of cutting and warehousing frame moulding, in a smaller space than would otherwise be required.
