    Description

    This is an extremely beautiful folk art box made of wood and entirely inlaid  with various kinds of veneer wood.  The box is 13 1/2 long  x  7 3/4  wide  x 5  high.. It  is dated 1876 and has a running horse also veneered into the top. In good condition considering it is over 150 years old.  It does have minor repairs and overall wear.(see  images)  However , the finish is original  and looks great.  It has 9 borders of veneer around the top of stars and diamonds .  The sides and front and back each have  over 10 decorated borders of designs.
    There is no key or locking mechanism with box.  At one time there was a locking mechanism but it is long gone.
    Inside the top of box there is an etching by Hunt of soldiers loading a canon. I believe this image is from West Point N.Y.  looking down at the Hudson River.
