    Description
Colorful, exquisite hand-made Vodou flag. This Kafou Flag shimmers with sequins, beads and reflected light and dazzles in color and imagery.
This flag has about 6k-8k of sequins and glass beads. Vodou flags is an art-form unique to Haiti. Constructed of sequins and beads hand-sewn onto silky cotton fabric, one by one to form the image desired, imagine the amount of work required. Inspired by myths, legends and unique personal visions, the Haitian flags incorporate ritual drawings, symbols and more.
Kafou’ means ‘crossroads’ in Creole, from the French Carrefour. Crossroads have great significance for Vodou, since they are the place where the world of the living and the world of the spirits meet. Kafou is himself an lwa, as the Vodou spirits are called. Kafou is one of the aspects of the spirit Papa Legba in Haitian Vodou. He is often envisioned as a young man who favors rum infused with gunpowder.
As his name indicates, he also controls the crossroads and has the power to grant or deny access to all other Loa, or spirits, and he allows the "crossing" of bad luck, deliberate destruction, misfortune, and injustices.
