OLD FAMILY BIBLE PAGES PERKINS TIMBERLAKE BENNETT BUCK
The main item in this auction lot consists of old 19th century printed pages that have been DETACHED from what must have been an early family bible. The pages measure about 8.5 x 10.75" and are on LAID PAPER of fine old rag content. The pages are only partly attached together at the spine and there are rather severe rips, tears & chipping around the edges. There are also a few old spots & stains (see scan below).
The pages are partly printed and have numerous entries written in manuscript with old brown ink (there are also a few entries in pencil). Many of the entries were apparently written by ANDREW JACKSON PERKINS.
The first page lists MARRIAGES. The second page lists BIRTHS. The third page has one column for BIRTHS and one column for DEATHS. The last page has two columns for DEATHS.
There appears to be primarily two Virginia-area families recorded in these pages:
1 -- the marriage (1816) & issue of JOEL TIMBERLAKE & MARTHA PERKINS
2 -- the marriage (1812) and issue of ANDREW JACKSON PERKINS & MARTHA A. MORRIS (also a second marriage for Andrew in 1855).
Besides the genealogical information written into these pages, Andrew has written a moving 8-line tribute to his wife after her death in 1873. This tribute appears to be the last entry written into these old pages of family record.
There are also a few additional family genealogy items that date from a more recent era that were kept with the family bible pages and these include:
--Some miscellaneous World War II era papers belonging to John Edward BARRETT, Jr., including his 1943 draft card, and a wartime ration book for alcoholic beverages.
-- There are also twelve (12) unidentified old photos, 5 from about the 1940s era and 7 earlier (c1915?) photos pasted onto the front and back sides of an old album page (see scan below). These photos vary in size from about 2.5 x 3.5" to about 8 x 10".
-- Finally, there are a few other miscellaneous papers, etc.
From information contained in the lot, it appears that John Edward Barrett, Jr. was a son of Addye Perkins Buck and John Edward Barrett Sr. Addye Perkins Buck was a daughter of Addye Lou Perkins who appears to be listed in the old family bible pages of genealogical record.
This would be an interesting group of items for a genealogist or a genealogy research Institution.
