OLD WITT FAMILY REGISTER GENEALOGY FRAKTUR & REUNION PHOTO
A colorful old 19th century WITT FAMILY Register FRAKTUR PRINT & WITT FAMILY REUNION PHOTOGRAPH.
The fraktur measures about 10 x 14" on old paper that is QUITE DETERIORATED, especially around the edges where it is badly broken, chipped & torn (see scan below). The Fraktur is folded in half vertically, but still attached along most of that weakened fold-line. Sold in this lot in "as is" condition, the Fraktur needs to be carefully unfolded and then preserved with some archival backing material.
The partly printed Fraktur has numerous entries written in manuscript with old brown ink.
Recorded on the Fraktur are the Marriages and Issue of JACOB WITT(1812-1871) of BOONE COUNTY, INDIANA:
1 -- Marriage in 1833 to ELIZABETH BOONE (1812-1856) and their EIGHT CHILDREN born between 1836 to 1856.
2 -- Marriage in 1858 to MARTHA ELLEN McCANN (1829-1900) and their SIX CHILDREN born between 1858 to 1871.
Jacob Witt was born in Guilford County, North Carolina, but he and many other members of these families are buried in Boone County, INDIANA.
ALSO INCLUDED IN THIS AUCTION LOT is a large Cardboard-Mounted Photograph (about 10 x 12") of a gathering of 25+ people, very young to very old. There is a (much later) piece of tape added on the reverse which reads:
"
Lady in chair, child at knee is Mary Witt, later Mary Mendenhall, mother of Walter Butler. Surely is family reunion of Solomon Witt family.
"
[Solomon Witt (1817–1902) was a brother of Jacob Witt.]
There is a photographer's stamp in the lower right corner of the cardboard mount for "J. Frazer Lebanon, Ind."
The old photograph itself is in good condition with good contrast but the cardboard mount has its upper left corner broken off (see scan below). There has also been two punctures made along the top with an old ribbon strung through (for hanging the picture).
These old items would be interesting for a genealogist or a genealogy research Institution.
