Description
A piece of copper from the smelter at the former White Pine copper mine at White Pine, Michigan.
Shown next to a half dollar, it is 10-1/2 inches long and weighs 3.4 pounds.
Ingots were being poured up until 1982, when the mine began producing pure copper by the electrolytic process.
